Curriculum Doctor
Dr. Christy Oliver is the "Curriculum Doctor" for the Step Out Summit. Prospective home educators may schedule an appointment with the "Doctor" to discuss what type of curriculum would be best for their situation. Dr. Oliver will give parents information on various curriculum options for each subject and the pros and cons of each, taking into consideration financial and time constraints, the number and ages of children, comfort level with teaching the subject, and preferred teaching methods. Curriculum suggestions are not prescriptions, they are simply services Christy will offer without charge as a friend to a friend at the Step Out Summit.

Christy Oliver is a Christ follower who was home educated K-12 by parents who were pioneers in the homeschool movement of the early 1980s. So little curriculum was available to home educators at that time, that they had to make worksheets from scratch on a typewriter! Christy earned B.S. (2001), M.S. (2004), and Ph.D. (2007) degrees in Animal and Range Sciences from North Dakota State University, doing research in a USDA laboratory. Subsequently, she was awarded a Congressional Science Fellowship (2007-2008) through the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Federation of Animal Science Societies. She taught at a Christian college (2009-2010) and spoke on homeschooling when at an international Bible conference where she also coordinated a mini homeschool curriculum fair. From 2011 to 2022, Christy taught in a micro school she started for disadvantaged children and children with special needs. She has taught homeschool co-op classes and also served as a homeschool coach and curriculum consultant for moms in her community. Oliver is the founder and director of Step Out Summit and Areté Press. She is an avid collector of curriculum and books and currently has around 5000 volumes in her library.
