Workshop Descriptions
Step Out: How to Begin a Home School or Micro School
What are the laws and legal requirements? How do I begin? How do I find and choose curriculum? Am I qualified? How do I find a teacher? How do I teach something I don't know? What about different learning styles? What about different teaching methods? How do I do housework and homeschool? How do I "get it all done?" Learn the answers to these questions and more!
Step Outside of the Box: Schooling versus Education
Our culture has come to equate schooling with education, however not all schooling results in education, and education does not require schooling. What is the difference, and how can you educate your child without schooling them? Whether your children are in an institutional school, home school, or micro school, discover how to "de-school" and educate through life-learning.
Everyone Can Step Out: Overcoming Challenges
Many people believe that they cannot home educate, because finances are too tight, both parents work or there is only one parent, high school is too daunting, or a child has special needs. This session deals with these challenges and how they can be overcome in a home or micro school environment. The workshop will also address things you can do if your child remains in institutional school or if you don't even have any children of your own!
Step Out into the Community: Socialization & Service
The socialization question is still one of the most asked questions when it comes to homeschooling. How do home educated students get socialized? Discover why home educators laugh when they hear this question!
Moms Step Out: Panel Discussion, Q & A Session
Moms, bring your fears, insecurities, and questions to our panel of experienced homeschool moms and teachers, who have experienced those same feelings and questions. We are here to help and support you as you STEP OUT!
Dads Step Out: Panel Discussion, Q & A Session
Dad is important to the success of a homeschool, even if he is not the main teacher. Dads, bring your questions and concerns about homeschooling to discuss with veteran homeschooling dads.
